October, 2003 Announcement:
Families of WTC Victims Needed for Federal Investigation
Family members who spoke with victims of the World Trade Center
disaster after the aircrafts' impacts are needed for voluntary interviews with investigators
from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The NIST building and fire safety investigation is authorized by
Congress. Investigators aim to improve public safety in part by collecting information about
what building occupants saw and their attempts to evacuate. NIST will make recommendations for
improvements in emergency preparedness and response.
