Open Letter: Monica Gabrielle's Testimony
These words spoken by Mrs. Gabrielle should be shown on every TV in the United
States and throughout the world, so people can truly attempt to comprehend what deliberate and
despicable acts of terror took place that day. The evil nature in which these acts were carried
out. The suffering of the families of the victims, the suffering of the thousands who witnessed
and responded. We as a free society, be it American or Canadian, OWE it to every person who
perished that day to ensure that this will never ever happen again, and that our generation and
those to come, never forget what happened on September 11, 2001. We must protect the sacred
ground all the way to bedrock. We must build on the strength and courage people like Monica
Gabrielle and Sally Regenhard bring forth, in efforts to protect what is sacred and currently
being overlooked. The building codes for our structures need to be enforced, NO BUILDING SHALL
BE EXEMPT!!! Compliance must be enforced. Codes should be stricter, building egress must be
properly managed. Standpipe and sprinkler systems must be mandatory. Working radios and
communications for rescue personnel. FDNY and NYPD units to work together. Working radios,
would have saved more lives that day. Better means of egress would have ensured many more, a
happy ending. Tragically, these things were overlooked. How do you explain that to a victim's
family?
I watched helplessly from my firehouse in Canada that fateful morning, I was shocked, I cried, but
most of all I came away with the hope......... that after a defining moment in time as such, that
government (who is ultimately responsible for protecting the people) would never turn their backs on
us again, and provide safety when we are at work, at home or at play. I ask that we support all
involved with Sept 11 2001, to lobby the government for immediate change.
God Bless.
Most sincerely, Michael Rozario
