Washington, DC - Rally for a Federal Investigation into Events of 9/11
by Monica Gabrielle, Co-Chairperson/Skyscraper Safety Campaign
06/11/02
Thank you all for joining us today.
My name is Monica Gabrielle, and I am the
Co-Chairperson of the Skyscraper Safety Campaign. The Skyscraper
Safety Campaign has been successful in persuading Congress to
conduct an independent investigation into the collapse of the World
Trade Center. I am also a widow of 9/11.
On that fateful Tuesday morning, my husband left for
work at 7:15. His office, at Aon Corporation, was located on the
103rd floor of Tower 2, at the World Trade Center. He went to work
and he never came home.
He and the nearly 3,000 innocent souls who were
slaughtered on 9/11 were heroes in their personal lives. Each one
of them was making a life for themselves and their families ...
aiming for the American Dream. Each one of them was a loving
husband, a loving wife, a loving child, a loving brother or sister.
Each one of them was a vital person. Each one was an important
spoke in the wheel of their family. Not one of them signed on to
become heroes of the United States of America in an act of war.
They were slaughtered because of what they stood
for. "FREEDOM." They were slaughtered because of where they
worked ... The World Trade Center, The
Pentagon. They were slaughtered because they had the
misfortune of boarding 4 planes that were used as missiles.
Today, the 9-month anniversary of this needless mass
murder of almost 3,000 innocent souls, we stand together seeking
answers to the questions: Why did this happen? What can to be
done to prevent something like this from ever happening again?
We, the families of these innocent victims have a
right to seek the answers to these questions. Our loved ones
cannot speak for themselves. We are their only voice. We
need to come together and demand that an independent, public,
bipartisan investigation into the events of 9/11 take place. We
need to find out where the breakdown in communicating the
warnings occurred. We must find out why these
warnings were not heeded. We must do all we can to
protect ourselves, our children and the future generations of our
country. We, as citizens, put our trust in the leaders of
the United States of America to protect us from all
potential threats. We must hold them accountable for their
actions in this regard. We can no longer sit idly by and trust
that our government is doing its job. They are to be held
accountable for the events of 9/11 and our continued grief and
sorrow.
The Skyscraper Safety Campaign supports the need for
an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the events of
9/11. We ask that you support the independent investigation into
the collapse of the World Trade Center by joining us in New York
City for the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology)
public hearing on Monday, June 24th.
The time has come for us to say "NO MORE". No more
needless deaths, no more excuses, No more sorrow. The time has
come for change to a system that has failed us on so many levels.
To our elected officials: IT IS YOUR JOB TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS
COUNTRY AND ITS CITIZENS ARE SAFE.
This is the legacy we must leave for our lost loved
ones. They cannot be allowed to have died in vain. Let us stand
together. Let us move forward with determination to assure a safe
and secure environment for all citizens. It is our goal! It is our
right!
