Tears in Our Eyes
NY Daily News - (by Monica Gabrielle)

Dear Editor:

Re E.R. Schipp (Jan. 20):

Manhattan: In her Jan. 20 column, E.R. Shipp states that the World Trade Center families "have dollar signs in their eyes." No, Ms. Shipp, we do not have dollar signs in our eyes. There are tears in our eyes – every moment of every day!

We have had to put our grief aside, put on public faces and fight for the justice our loved ones so richly deserve. Our government effectively eliminated our options when it linked its bailout of the airline industry to establishment of the victims' compensation fund. On Sept. 12, as lobbying for that bailout began, the families were going from hospital to hospital to search lists, hoping to find the names of their missing loved ones.

This is not about money. This is about justice. No amount of money will change our lives. Ms. Shipp, I will gladly give you any amount I receive or have received from the kindness of the American people if you or anyone else is able to turn back the clock to Sept. 10 and return my life to normal.
