Hard Questions at Ground Zero
NY Times - Letters to the Editor - January 10, 2003
To the Editor:
Re "Group Therapy at Ground Zero," by Frank Rich (column, Jan. 4):
The families have spent the last 15 months
fighting for investigations and reforms. Why did those towers
come down? How could our government have missed connecting the
dots? What has changed? Is anyone any safer?
The powers that be would like nothing better than
for us to go away quickly and quietly.
The rebuilding of 10 million square feet of office
space is ludicrous. Who would want to go back into one of the
world's tallest buildings after experiencing death knocking at
the door? What incentives will lure tenants again?
Are we going to allow another World Trade Center
to be built on the ashes and remains of our loved ones? Are we
going to let greed dictate what we, the families of the victims
and citizens of New York City, will have to endure?
When will we wake up and realize that our most
important goal must be not to repeat history?
